The Ningbo Week 2012, a comprehensive platform promoting sustainable, pragmatic and strategic cooperation between Shanghai and Ningbo City in Zhejiang Province, opened in Shanghai yesterday.
The theme of the Ningbo Week is "Cooperation, Communication, Development, and Win-win." The week, which is held in Shanghai for the first time, will end on Friday.
The platform aims to promote economic development between cities and regions.
A series of events will take place during the Ningbo Week in Shanghai, and these will involve different sectors such as commodity exchange, medical cooperation, tourism, textile and garment, agricultural production, scientific and technology cooperation, talent exchange and international trading.
Huang Hui, deputy secretary-general of the Ningbo city government, said at a press conference yesterday that the Ningbo Week in Shanghai may seal deals for 44 investment projects worth 16.9 billion yuan (US$2.68 billion).
"The growth in Ningbo's financial revenue ranked the top in Zhejiang Province, and the second among 16 cities in the Yangtze River Delta region," Huang said.
"In the first quarter, the manufacturing sector rebounded. The overall fixed-asset investment rose 28.1 percent, while sales of consumer goods grew 14 percent. Exports soared 10.6 percent in March despite shrinking external markets. All these achievements are hard won," he said.
Shanghai and Ningbo have cooperated extensively as there are more than 500 ongoing major projects between the two cities, while the investment amount totaled more than 50 billion yuan, according to data provided by the organizing committee of the Ningbo Week.
Ningbo, the second-biggest city in the province in east China and also a major port on the eastern coast of China, aims to further expand cooperation with Shanghai to boost its own economic development.
