Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), stated on Wednesday that in response to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry's (FICCI) invitation, the BFA Board has agreed to host the Asia Financial Cooperation Conference together with FICCI in Mumbai, India on November 26 – 27.
The theme will be "Open Asia, Open Finance". Approximately 500 delegates from governments, regulatory authorities and firms in the Asian banking, insurance and finance sectors will come together to discuss the creation of an innovative and open environment within a balanced regulatory framework.
During the conference, participants will hold in-depth discussions on numerous topics including global economic trends, Asian transformation, cooperation and communication, infrastructure financing, currency exchange and exchange rate coordination mechanisms. Other topics will cover the establishment of a free trade zone and Asian economic consolidation, dialogues on energy, resources and finance, as well as cooperation amongst Asian financial institutions.
This will be the BFA's first time hosting a conference in India.
"As is mentioned in the meeting’s theme, the key word here is cooperation," Mr. Zhou noted.
"Whether it is the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 or the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, cooperation is not only necessary but also urgent. The rest of the world has placed great hopes on Asia, therefore the countries in the region must further their coordination and cooperation in order to live up to expectations," Zhou said.
