The Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), China's third largest bank by market value, said Friday that its vice president Yang Kun has resigned for "personal reasons."

"Mr. Yang Kun has resigned from his position as ABC's executive director, vice president and member of a special committee under the board, as he cannot perform his duties for personal reasons," the bank said in a statement filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The resignation is in effect as of Friday, the statement said.

The statement said Yang did not have any disagreements with the bank's board.

On May 30, the bank said in a statement that Yang was "assisting in an investigation" but did not elaborate on who was conducting the investigation or what the investigation was about.

The bank is listed in both Shanghai and Hong Kong. On Friday, its shares rose 0.41 percent to 2.47 yuan per share in Shanghai, but dropped 0.34 percent to 2.93 Hong Kong dollars per share in Hong Kong.
