The state-owned Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited (GHEL) is making arrangement to renew the license to distribute earth-moving equipment of Chinese firm, Ghana's Minister of Trade and Industry (MOTI) Hannah Tetteh disclosed here Thursday.

GHEL secured dealership rights for the distributing equipment of Liugong and Indian manufacturers BML last year.

Addressing journalists, the minister said the company had supplied tractors and power tillers to individual farmers, commercial farmers and corporate institutions in productive areas such as mining and construction.

"The supply of the equipment has helped to improve agriculture, create jobs and enhance the livelihood of many people, particularly in the farming communities," she said.

GHEL is a government-owned limited liability company with its main business focusing on the sale and servicing of earth-moving equipment and agricultural machinery.

The company was carved out and established as a whole commercial enterprise in 1995 when its mother company, Ghana National Trading Company (GNTC), was put on divestiture.

Since January 2012, GHEL has sold about seven Liugong heavy machines.
