A Chinese manufacturer of railway wagons on Friday delivered 120 40-tonne axle-load wagons to Australian mining giant Rio Tinto.

The 120 40-tonne axle-load wagons, each with a towing tonnage of 38,000 tonnes, were tailor-made for Rio Tinto, said Wei Yan, chairman and general manager of Qiqihar Railway Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. under China CNR Corporation Ltd. (QRRS of CNR) on Friday.

The wagon, each weighing 20.5 tonnes, boasts the world's heaviest axle, lightest weight and highest configuration, according to Wei.

Heavy axle-load wagons are most often used in Canada, Brazil, South Africa and Australia, and the axles usually weigh 26 to 32.5 tonnes, with wagon towing tonnages not over 35,000 tonnes.

Founded in 1935, the QRRS of CNR is a leading enterprise and an export base for the design and manufacturing of railway wagons and cranes in China. In 2012, the contractual value of the company's machine exports reached 322 million U.S. dollars.
