Leaders from the media and press participated in a roundtable discussion of "Building the Silk Road Consensus" during the 2015 Boao Forum for Asia in Boao, Hainan Province, on March 26, 2015.

Jiang Jianguo, Minister of the State Council Information Office and deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made a keynote speech at the meeting, saying that though the "Belt and Road" Initiative was only introduced a short time ago, it has already taken shape and will significantly influence the world.

The "Belt and Road" Initiative refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, projects which were put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his overseas visits in 2013.

"These initiatives accord with the wishes of every nation involved to speed up development, and these projects answer the demands of people from every nation to live a prosperous life," Jiang said.

"The media will be the bridges that help enhance understanding and friendship among peoples and nations. The further development of the 'Belt and Road' Initiative will not only bring more opportunities for cooperation to different countries and regions but will also create greater prospects for the media and a world stage on which it can perform."

Jiang hopes that various media organizations will use their unique advantages and specializations to do the best they can to give more positive energy to the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
