China's railways report high passenger volume

Around 9.8 million railway passenger trips were expected to be made on Saturday, the third day of a week-long National Day holiday, according to China Railway Corp (CRC).

Daily passenger flow hit about 10.39 million on Friday, a year-on-year increase of 9.1 percent.

On Saturday, the railway operator scheduled 282 extra trains to meet the surge in demand.

China has 17,000 kilometers of high-speed rail covering much of the country.

More than 532 million domestic trips are expected to be made from Oct 1 to 7, the week-long National Day holiday, according to the China Tourism Academy.
