Iran has sent a delegation of gas officials to neighboring Iraq to discuss a gas deal with the country's energy officials, Iran's Petro Energy Information Network (SHANA) reported on Saturday.

The first phase of gas supply to Iraqi power plants will begin in the near future, Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hamid Reza Araqi told SHANA.

Iraq's Ministry of Power has announced it will receive Iran's natural gas by late June this year, and Iran will export 25 million cubic meters of gas per day (mcm/d) to the Iraqi city of Basra and the figure will rise to 35 mcm/d in a four-year period, Araqi was quoted as saying.

In July 2013, Iran signed an agreement with Iraq to deliver natural gas to its western neighbor.
