Hong Kong, as the bridge for multinationals to invest in Guangzhou and for Guangzhou enterprises to invest globally, has played a very important role in Guangzhou’s socioeconomic development. Therefore, Guangzhou regarded Hong Kong as an important stop in its global roadshow of 2017 Fortune Global Forum.

Cai said that Guangzhou achieved a GDP of 1.96 trillion Yuan in 2016, 8.2% up compared to last year. Meanwhile, the reform and innovation are injecting new momentum into the city’s sustainable development. So far Guangzhou has well established itself in the emerging industries including internet, biomedicine, new material, industrial robots, drone and 3D printing. Along with the reform deepening, Guangzhou has embraced the investments from a great number of Fortune Global 500 companies and multinationals since last year, such as Cisco Smart City, COSCO Shipping Bulk Co., Ltd, GE Bio-park and Foxconn 10.5-Generation Displays Ecological Industrial Park. China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) Nansha Area of Guangzhou, as an important platform for deepening the Guangzhou-Hong Kong cooperation, has developed 209 reform and innovation initiatives, many of which are at the forefront in China, and is becoming a new benchmark of institutional innovation.

Cai said that Guangzhou is attracting the world’s attention with its rapid growth and development. The opening of 2017 Fortune Global Forum in Guangzhou represents the recognition of the city by the multinationals and the expectation they cherish for the city. With Openness and Innovation as the theme of the Forum, Guangzhou hopes to explore with the business leaders on how to inject new momentum into the economic growth in an open and innovative manner and generate more opportunities for the investors.
