3 expressways connect Beijing and Tianjin

The length of the expressways in operation in Beijing has increased to 1,014 km over the past five years, and three expressways with a total of 20 lanes have connected Beijing and Tianjin.

In the past five years, the length of rail transit in service has increased from 372 km to 574 km, the length of expressways from 912 km to 1,014 km and that of bus lanes from 604 km to 845 km. Green commuting ratio reached 71 percent.

The G7 Expressway from Beijing to Urumqi with a length of about 2,582 km will be open by June 30, shortening the distance between the two cities by more than 1,300 kilometers. The expressway will open the fastest access from Khorgos, Xinjiang to Tianjin Port, which will be an important part of the new Eurasian Continental Bridge under the Belt and Road Initiative.

High-speed railways from Beijing to Zhangjiakou and to Shenyang are under construction, while the construction of Beijing-Bazhou Railway has just got started and is expected to open in 2020. Construction of intercity railways has begun between Beijing and Tangshan, and between Beijing and Tianjin’s Binjiang District, which are expected to open in 2020.

Currently, the travel pass that enable passengers to use all subway systems throughout Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region can be used on 1,011 bus lines and 122 suburban lines in Beijing. With the pass, citizens are entitled to discounts when taking buses in Beijing, Tianjin and seven cities in Hebei Province.

With respect to the management of traffic congestion, a total of 718 projects have been implemented jointly by Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport and the governments of six major districts in Beijing over the past five years.
