China on Thursday launched a data base that can be used to curb the sharing of pornography on the Internet.

Nine Internet companies are currently sharing the data base, including Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent.

"Once pornography is detected by one company, the other users are notified," according to the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications.

The office hopes to attract more online enterprises to ensure the speedy, and efficient, detection and handling of inappropriate content.
