Officials with WeChat have been forced to issue a new statement amid new allegations that the company is invading the privacy of its users, reports thepaper.cn.

New reports have been circulating suggesting Tencent collects user data to support its big data analysis.

This has prompted a statement from WeChat, saying that user chat records are only saved on mobiles and computers, and says the company does not save user data.

Tencent has openly responded to this issue for many times. "It's not in line with WeChat's values to read or analyze our users' chatting records unless it's related to the national security. WeChat is able to, but never does it. WeChat will never cross the borderline of privacy," said Ding Ke, vice chair of Tencent at a Cyber Security Summit in August.

WeChat users surpassed 900 million in September 2017.
