Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport has recently unveiled details of a "road test" for autopilot vehicles.

Abilities of self-driving vehicles including dynamic driving ability, vehicle cognition, obeying traffic rules, emergency response and human intervention will be evaluated, according to the test.

Automakers need to apply for the test, based on vehicle type. The test will be held in isolated, closed testing sites.

Autopilot vehicle driving ability in extreme weather and diverse road conditions will also be examined.

Thirty situations, such as having traffic accidents, failing to keep a safe distance and failing to keep a safe speed, will directly lead to failure in the test.

Self-driving cars can be tested on proper roads after passing tests at closed testing sites.

Beijing's first road for automatic driving testing will be designed in the city's southeastern Yizhuang economic development area.

The commission, however, has not unveiled the timetable of construction on either the closed testing site or testing road.
