Chinese research is said to be underway for the next-generation mobile communication standard, 6G, said Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, on the sidelines of the annual two sessions.

Research into 6G technology is connected to the 'Internet of Things,' concept.

Miao adds that 5G technology is playing a key role in the service sector.

"The popular unmanned vehicles, for example, need not only information from sensors, but also information links between vehicles and vehicles, vehicles and roads, so high-quality internet service is very necessary," said Miao.

Three Chinese telecommunication companies, mainly China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom have their own plans to promote 5G networks separately.

China Mobile is beginning to test its 5G networks in Hangzhou, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Wuhan this year.
