Chinese home appliance giant TCL's mobile Internet branch HAWK Internet has partnered with global app data provider App Annie to further tap overseas markets.

Both parties will collaborate in designing mobile app development strategies for HAWK Internet and improve the app user experience, according to a Memorandum of Understanding of strategic cooperation.

Established in 2016 as part of TCL's business transition efforts, HAWK Internet has attracted about 340 million users in over 200 countries and regions, according to Sun Liang, TCL vice president and HAWK CEO.

Latin America is the company's largest overseas market, followed by North America, Southeast Asia, and India.

"While the domestic mobile Internet market is much developed and faces fierce competition, many overseas markets have abundant opportunities to offer," Sun said.

The startup has stepped up its investment in the Belt and Road region in recent years. The company's mobile phone cleaning tool Super Cleaner made it into the top 30 most downloaded Chinese apps last year, according to App Annie.

The Belt and Road region has become an emerging market for Chinese app developers. About 55 percent of overseas app downloads developed by Chinese publishers last year were in the region, compared with 47 percent in 2015, according to Dai Bin, director of the Greater China region at App Annie.

The Belt and Road region is a vibrant market with remarkable potential for apps as more Chinese firms enter the region thanks to supportive policies, Dai said.
