Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.44 percent, closing at 2827.63 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.49 percent higher at 9205.43 points.

Trading remained low, with daily combined turnover coming in at 325.9 billion yuan (about 49.1 billion U. S. dollars), almost unchanged from the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 955 to 313 on the Shanghai bourse and by 1,353 to 537 in Shenzhen.

Mining, oil and cement companies led the gains, while forestry and agricultural, and software companies lost.

Shanghai Hongda Mining Co., Ltd surged by the daily limit of 10 percent to end at 4.02 yuan. Inner Mongolia Eerduosi Resources Co., Ltd gained 3.97 percent to close at 8.9 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, the country's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, rose 0.7 percent to close at 1592.98 points.
