According to the introduction of Wang Bingnan, vice minister of Commerce at a press conference in Shanghai on July 27, the main image is a giant panda called "Jinbao."

The name sounds like "Jinbo," the abbreviation of the CIIE in Chinese, meaning "treasure of the CIIE" and "bringing in wealth" at the same time, he explained.

The panda is China's national treasure and its international name card; adored by all for its chubby and lovely image, the panda has long been China's emissary for friendship, contributing to friendly ties with other countries, Wang noted.

The mascot wears a blue-yellow scarf embroidered with the logo of the CIIE. Yellow stands for the Silk Road Economic Belt, while blue represents the Maritime Silk Road in the 21st Century. In addition, the four-leaf clover it holds in its hand representing the National Exhibition Center in Shanghai, where the expo is to be held, while also being a well-known international symbol of good luck, he added.

The expo logo and slogan, "New Era, Shared Future" were also unveiled on the same day.
