Beijing E-Town is home to 153 robot and intelligent manufacturing enterprises that have completed technology transfer for more than 1,400 patents since it became the host of the World Robot Conference (WRC), according to reports from the ongoing 2018 WRC.

A number of newly developed robots are currently on display at the WRC, such as the 580g ultra-light aircraft "bionic flying fox," a China-made industrial robot core component RV reducer, a self-customized automatic robot production line, and an ultra-light collaborative robot that has won the German Red Dot Design Award.

Many of the robots on displays came from Beijing E-Town, the permanent venue of WRC. One of them is a 145-mm RV reducer, a core component of industrial robots. Currently, more than 90 percent of these components in China come from foreign companies, filling a large demand in industrial robotics—each robot requires three to five of these RV reducers. The RV reducer made in E-Town may soon begin helping China to address the need domestically, reports say. The performance and accuracy retention of these components have reportedly reached international standard, and they could help to reduce the production costs of robots by 20 percent.

Since E-Town was approved as the permanent hosting place for the WRC in 2016, more and more robotics and smart manufacturing enterprises have made homes in the area, with the number increasing from 35 to 153 and currently accounting for 5 percent of the total number in China.

At this year's WRC, a promotional conference will be held in the hope of attracting more high-tech startups and fast-growing high-tech companies to relocate to or open branches in E-Town.

E-Town is aiming to house more than 300 robot and smart manufacturing enterprises by 2020, and to have the output value of such industries to account for over 12 percent of the gross industrial output of the area.
