China's Huawei to help Russia build 5G technology

China's IT giant Huawei announced that it will help Russia build 5G network. Sina News reports that the project is currently under experiment in Kazan city, Russia.

Lin Ruiqi, Senior Vice President of Huawei, told Sputnik News Agency & Radio of Russia that Huawei will help Russia build 5G network and also take an active part in Russia's national development strategy of "digital economy".

"In the setting up of 4G technology, the US is in the leading position. But in terms of 5G technology, China has made more progress. Last year, Huawei displayed 5G customer terminals in the first place and the tech is in the leading position," said Lin Ruiqi.

Lin Ruiqi also said that Huawei's total investment on the basic facilities research and development on 5G technology has reached over USD 60 million in the past few years.

Lin also said that Huiwei cooperates closely with Kazan city and is having discussions on the project of building a "smart city", which includes research and the development of intelligent traffic signals and facilities to ensure safety in addition to the 5G technology.
