BYD, China's leading manufacturer of eBuses, has scored further success in the European market with a new Swedish order just announced.
Chinese eBus manufacturer BYD has gained a further breakthrough in Europe with the confirmation of a Swedish order for 26 vehicles. The bus operator Nobina is to take delivery of three types of BYD ebuses: 11 of the 12m vehicles, 10 of the 18m articulated type and five of the 8.7m midi buses.
This makes it the leading supplier of eBuses to the Scananavian market with 100 supplied or in the process of being delivered.
The new order is for vehicles to service routes in Lidkoping (12m), Boras (18m articulated), and Ale (midi bus) in south-west Sweden. BYD already has buses running in several cities in Sweden, including Eskilstuna, and Ängelholm and Norrtälje.
The new Nobina fleet is expected to be delivered in the summer of 2019.
Martin Atterhall, Fleet manager of the Nobina Group said: "There is a rapid growth in the Nordic e-bus market. Where new technology and electric solutions are enablers for a more attractive and sustainable public transport – offering a cleaner, quieter and more comfortable traffic."
Isbrand Ho, Managing Director at BYD Europe, said: "Scandinavia has become the fastest growing market for BYD in Europe and is a remarkable success story particularly given both the tough climatic conditions and the strong competitors."
