The United Kingdom is proud to be treated as the "Country of Honor" at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and to work alongside China's Ministry of Commerce and Shanghai Municipal Government, to showcase its dynamic, diverse and cutting-edge technology.

Taking place at the Shanghai National Exhibition Centre Nov. 5-10 and organized by the Chinese government, CIIE will feature over 2,000 exhibitors, and with more than 150,000 trade visitors expected to attend.

The UK's presence will focus on showcasing its expertise across a range of sectors. Its pavilion will feature world-leading companies in healthcare and life sciences, financial and professional services, education, creative industries, consumer goods, food and agriculture products, aviation and aerospace, automotive, AI and big data.

In addition to the national pavilion, CIIE will feature British companies including Jaguar Land Rover, British Airways, Astra Zeneca, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC and DeLonghi – Kenwood.

The theme of the pavilion is Innovation is GREAT, and will include cutting-edge VR and AR technologies from partners like Hypervsn, displaying 3D holographic system; showcasing a next-generation augmented reality mirror that lets users meet, interact and even take their photo with some of the greatest animated characters around; and Inition's emerging VR system, allowing people to experience a 360 degree 3D video and audio journey, transporting users into a "live" orchestra performance.

Cutting-edge software company Engage will feature its CoCreate interactive software platform, designed to take workplace collaboration to the next level by combining a large touchscreen application that draws together content to display, annotate and manipulate across the entire touch surface.

Not only will the pavilion display some of the UK's most pioneering technology, it will provide a unique platform for Chinese businesses, investors and consumers to connect with its companies. A number of wraparound events will also take place at CIIE, exploring how the UK and China can work together to boost their trading relationship.

Events will have an overarching innovation theme with a focus on healthcare, financial and professional services, education, sport, energy and creative technology. The UK program at CIIE will include a series of leadership talks, business seminars, product demonstrations and panel events.

CIIE provides a unique opportunity to further strengthen and deepen the UK's long-term cooperation with China in the golden era. China is the UK's largest trading partner outside of Europe and North America. Bilateral trade has gone from strength to strength: that in goods and services reached a record £67.5bn in 2017, a 15% increase from 2016, whilst exports to China grew by 28.5% in 2017 to reach £22.3bn.

Trade Commissioner for ChinaRichard Burnsaid: "The UK is delighted to be a Country of Honor at the inaugural China International Import Expo, taking place on the 40th anniversary of China's economic reform and opening up. The UK pavilion will showcase how [our] most pioneering technologies, goods and services can support China to further increase living standards and tackle both domestic and global challenges. We are creating a unique platform for Chinese businesses, investors and consumers to connect with UK companies.

"CIIE demonstrates China's desire to further open up its markets, increase trade, and encourage Chinese consumers and businesses to buy more products and services from across the globe. The UK is the ideal partner in these objectives: our companies, human capital and institutions are recognized world leaders in many of the areas needed to power the next stage of China's development. There really has never been a better time for the UK and China to work together and trade more for the benefit of both our countries."

He went on to say that, when Prime Minister Theresa May visited China last February, the two countries agreed on deals worth over £9bn across a great variety of sectors including education, technology, advanced manufacturing and financial services. "CIIE provides us with a fantastic opportunity to build on success already achieved and further strengthen our long-term partnership with China in the golden era."
