China's southern island province of Hainan launched a job fair in Beijing on Saturday to attract talents to aid the development of its China (Hainan) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ).

A total of 371 companies and public institutions took part, offering 7,471 posts in sectors such as finance, energy and IT technology.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Hainan becoming a province and special economic zone. In April, the Communist Party of China Central Committee decided to support Hainan in developing itself into a pilot FTZ, and gradually exploring and steadily promoting the establishment of a free trade port with Chinese characteristics.

According to a plan published last month, Hainan should be positioned as a pilot zone for comprehensively deepening reform and opening up, a display of the country’s ecological civilization, an international tourism and consumption center and a zone offering services and support for the country’s major strategies.

Speaking at the fair, provincial governor Shen Xiaoming said the new positioning of Hainan would help turn the island into a hub of global resource allocation and an important gateway for foreign investment into China.

As renowned domestic and foreign companies, including Alibaba, Temasek and the Swiss Re Group, have been flocking to invest in Hainan, the island can offer a large number of quality job opportunities for young people, Shen said.

A representative of Pacific Construction Group told China.org.cn it could see great potential in Hainan's development thanks to the series of preferential policies introduced to attract businesses and talents.

A graduate surnamed Qin from Beijing Foreign Studies University said that pleasant natural environment and reasonable housing prices made Hainan appealing to her.

The job fair was jointly organized by the People's Government of Hainan Province, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
