An Air China flight from Beijing to Los Angeles made an emergency landing in Russia in the early hours of Tuesday morning after a fire alarm went off in the cargo hold.

Flight CA983 took off from Beijing Capital International Airport at 9:13 p.m. on Monday night. Several hours after take-off, a fire alarm sounded for the cargo hold. The plane was diverted to Anadyr Airport in northern Russia, where it landed at 2:55 a.m.

A video recorded by a passenger as he was leaving the cabin showed flight attendants shouting loudly as they urged passengers to leave their luggage behind and evacuate the aircraft using the emergency slides. The passenger praised the flight attendants for being the last people to leave the plane, and for offering blankets and even their shoes to passengers.

An inspection of the plane found no trace of fire, and the initial investigation found that the fire alarm was faulty. The crew and passengers continued their flight to Los Angeles on a replacement plane three hours later.
