Chinese consumers are spending more on domestic brands online as Chinese companies keep improving the design and quality of their products, a report showed.

The increase of total online orders of Chinese products was 8 percent higher than that of foreign brand products in 2018, according to a report released by a think tank with the China Economic Information Service based on data from e-commerce platform JD.com.

The growth of the total sum of orders of Chinese products was 14 percent faster than that of products made by foreign firms last year.

Chinese brands also saw more online orders for products such as maternal and child products, whose markets were dominated by their foreign counterparts last year.

The country's top-tier cities reported stronger spending power of domestic products, and the enthusiasm for Chinese brands was robust among young people, the report showed.

Friday marked the country's third Chinese Brands Day, which falls on May 10 each year to promote the development of more premium Chinese brands.
