The second 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Expo and 21st Cross-Straits Fair for Economy and Trade (CFET) opened in Fuzhou Strait International Convention and Exhibition Center in Fuzhou, capital of China's Fujian province, on May 18, 2019.

The expo covers 120,000 square meters, features 19 exhibitions areas, and is populated with over 4,500 booths showcasing products from countries along the Maritime Silk Road, and from Chinese cities like Taiwan and Fuzhou. The theme of this year's expo is to "expand cooperation along the Maritime Silk Road, deepen cross-strait integration, and share development achievements."

On top of the expo, three parallel forums — the Silk Road China-Europe Investment Forum, Cross-Straits Supply Chain Integrated Development Summit Forum and Maritime Economy and City Development — are being held. Sri Lanka, the guest country of this year's expo, presented the opening ceremony.

During the investment promotion conference held on the first day, 160 key projects were signed with a total investment of 194.9 billion yuan (US$28.21 billion). These projects cover a diverse range of areas including big data, the internet of things, biological medicine, metallurgical building materials, health and elderly care.

The events are being run over the course of five days. They open to the public free of charge from May 18 to 22.
