Romania is open and fair to international ICT (information and communications technology) product suppliers operating in the country, Minister of Communications and Information Society Alexandru Petrescu said on Monday.

During his meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Romania Jiang Yu, the Romanian official positively evaluated the contribution of Chinese enterprises to the development of the Romanian communications industry and the entire economy and society, emphasizing that Romania, as an important market in the region, has always adhered to the principle of internationalization and is pleased to see that Chinese ICT companies come to invest and operate in the country, to participate in the construction of Romania's digital economy.

Romania is willing to strengthen practical cooperation with China in the ICT field through specific projects, he added.

Jiang said the ICT sector is one of the most active and potential industries in both countries. She urged both sides to strengthen cooperation in relevant fields and push bilateral pragmatic cooperation to a higher level in the year when China and Romania celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of their comprehensive partnership of friendship and cooperation.

According to Jiang, enterprises are the mainstay in strengthening the ICT cooperation between the two countries. Over the years, Chinese companies with world influence, such as Huawei and ZTE, have invested in Romania and their technical capabilities, equipment quality, safety and service levels have been deeply recognized by the local market and the public.

It is hoped that the Romanian side will continue to provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese telecommunications companies and maintain a mutually beneficial and win-win situation for the ICT cooperation between the two countries, she said.

The Chinese ambassador also expressed her firm belief that China and the European Union can unswervingly pursue a mutually beneficial and win-win strategy, support multilateralism, uphold fair competition and market principles, safeguard the rules-based multilateral trading system, and maintain a normal international trade order for common development.
