Beijing will have 5G coverage in its six core districts by the end of this year, according to China Unicom's Beijing branch, who plans to offer customized 5G internet packages according to individual needs.
The telecom giant also plans to work with phone manufacturers in order to subsidize 5G phone costs for consumers.
According to a China Unicom representative, 5G will be used for a variety of products, including smartphones, watches, tablet PCs, VR helmets, vehicles, robots, etc., providing services such as ultra-high definition video, VR/AR games, and virtual shopping.
In addition, China Unicom is cooperating extensively with partners in the fields of smart transportation and automated parking.
Currently, China's three major telecom carriers-China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom-are stepping up efforts to build the 5G network, with the number of large base stations exceeding 4,400 in Beijing.
