On Friday, project teams from a dozen research institutes as well as state-owned and private companies have joined the competition to demonstrate the advantages and key features of their projects in fields including the Internet of Things (IoT), facial recognition, data science, and robotics.

The company aims to solve technological difficulties in real-case scenarios, incubate new technology breakthroughs, and facilitate the application of technological achievements by mobilizing efforts from outside the company through the competition, said a senior official with the State Grid e-commerce unit.

According to Qi Feng, a professor at the Institute of Network Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, open competitive bidding which aligns technology solutions with the actual demands from the corporate side, can better consolidate advantageous resources, break key technology bottlenecks, and promote industrial development.
