The Jack Ma Foundation on Wednesday launched a fund in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, pledging at least 100 million yuan (about 14.6 million U.S. dollars) to help train teachers and support the development of education in the region.

The foundation will help establish a teacher's training center in Lhasa Teachers College and provide subsidies for 800 normal school students, 1,400 teachers and 1,000 principals in Tibet in 10 years, according to Yu Xiuhong, executive secretary of the foundation.

Yu added that the foundation would help teachers at Lhasa Teachers College attend training programs in normal schools in China's other provinces.

The Jack Ma Foundation was established in 2014 by Alibaba founder Jack Ma, a former English teacher.
