Digital economy explored at directors' forum

The Directors' Forum on Digital Economy (Longjiang) opened in Harbin University of Commerce, Heilongjiang province, on June 29. 

A website on talent cultivation (http://ngit.kepuchina.cn/) was officially launched, providing resources in regard to big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. 

In his keynote speech, Song Jun, a member of the Leading Party Members' Group and Executive Secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), said the digital economy was of strategic importance for any country's development. It had become a new driver for upgrading the Chinese economy and sharpening international competitiveness. 

Song expressed his hope that this forum could provide some insights into eco-system building and talent cultivation for the digital economy.

Leading figures such as Yang Xueshan, a professor of Peking University and former vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Gong Ke, executive director of China New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy Academy, Zhao Chunjiang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Xuan Lan, dean of Schwarzman College of Tsinghua University, shared their thoughts on digital economy research, artificial intelligence education, smart agriculture, and smart governance in the fourth industrial revolution. 

Meanwhile, Ma Mingjie, a researcher with the Development Research Center of the State Council analyzed the innovation-driven development of minor enterprises.

The two-day event is one of the 35 activities scheduled to mark CAST's 21st annual meeting. About 200 scholars from Chinese universities and enterprise institutes took part. 

A series of seminars were held in parallel to train about 300 teachers in new generation information technology.
