A special event was held on Thursday in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to promote tea products made in Fujian, a coastal province in southeast China.

More than 50 tea enterprises from Fujian held business discussions with Hong Kong companies, signing letters of intent worth 380 million yuan ($53.99 million). A tea culture center was also inaugurated at the activity.

“Through this activity, we want to efficiently promote Fujian’s tea industry and culture in Hong Kong. We expect it to promote the communication between Fujian and Hong Kong regarding tea trade and tea culture, and help Fujian’s tea products reach more Belt and Road Initiative countries via Hong Kong,” said an official of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Fujian province.

Fujian is a major producer of tea products, including oolong, black, white and scented tea.

Hong Kong is a big consumer of Fujian’s tea products. In 2018, the total value of tea products sold from Fujian to Hong Kong grew by 74% to $110 million, accounting for one third of Fujian’s total tea export value.

In recent years, Fujian has been committed to green development, and strived to promote the high quality development of its tea industry by improving quality and branding. The value created by the tea industry in the province has exceeded 100 billion yuan.
