Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region saw its overall railway freight volume for the year exceed 100 million tonnes last week, according to railway authorities.

Local railway authorities expect that the annual railway freight volume of Xinjiang will exceed 150 million tonnes this year.

From January to August, Xinjiang ranked first in the growth rate of railway freight volume in China. This year, Xinjiang railway departments have improved the overall railway transport capacity, said Gao Lei, deputy director of the freight department of China Railway Urumqi Group Co. Ltd.

The railway departments have also strengthened infrastructure construction this year to improve the logistics services, expand the capacity of major freight railway stations and improve the loading and unloading cargo capacity and the transportation capacity.
