The number of freight trains that ran between China and Europe via Manzhouli, the largest land port on the China-Russia border, went up 88 percent year on year to 1,750 in the first eight months of 2019.

According to the Manzhouli exit and entry inspection station, the number of inbound trains grew 103 percent and that of outbound trains increased 78 percent in the period.

The major exports have changed from garments, toys, plastic products and daily necessities to large engineering machinery and aluminum products due to Russia's increasing demand for China's high-end products, said Wang Fucheng with the station.

Currently, there are 52 routes connecting the Manzhouli port with European countries. Outbound trains mainly collect goods from over 60 Chinese cities, while inbound trains carry goods from more than 30 cities in 12 European countries.
