Beijing saw the total length of its roads citywide surge by over 130 times during the past seven decades thanks to massive construction of transport infrastructure.

By the end of 2018, the city's road network reached 29,400 km in total length and its road density increased to 179.3 km per square km, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport said at a press conference Tuesday.

The number of regular bus routes in the metropolis has skyrocketed from only five in 1949 to more than 1,200, with a combined operating distance of over 22,000 km, according to the commission.
