China's largest online travel agency Ctrip has decided to change its official name as the company aims to further expand its global presence and influence.

The company's shareholders have approved the change of the company name from "Ctrip.com International, Ltd." to "Trip.com Group Limited," which is expected to be easier for global travelers to recognize and remember.

The company's name change was unveiled by its executive chairman James Liang as the company celebrated its 20th founding anniversary Tuesday. Liang also announced the company's plan to accelerate overseas expansion in the day.

Established in 1999, the company has grown into one of the world's largest travel service providers with a string of domestic as well as overseas platforms such as Skyscanner.

While consolidating its presence at home, the Shanghai-based company has been extending its overseas reach in recent years. International businesses accounted for about 35 percent of its total revenue in the second quarter of this year.

The company's future strategy focuses on offering high-quality services and globalization, according to Liang.

Leveraging strengths in scale, mobile advantages, various platforms and multi-product presence, the group is confident of becoming the leading international travel brand in Asia and the world in three and five years' time, respectively, he said.
