The 2019 China International Import Expo (CIIE) is a great opportunity for Jordan to boost exports to China and attract more Chinese investors, Jordanian officials and experts said.

"Jordan is a guest of honor at the expo and Amman Chamber of Industry has its own pavilion and will represent the industry as a whole," said Fareedon Hartouqa, secretary general of Jordan Investment Commission, said in a recent interview with Xinhua.

"China is a very important partner for us and we hope that the event will help us increase trade ties and investment from China," he added.

Stressing that the Chinese market is the world's biggest one, Hartouqa said the expo in China will help Jordan promote its products and services such as pharmaceutical Dead Sea products, IT sector and tourism.

Musa Al Saket, vice chairman of Amman Chamber of Industry, also highlighted the importance of the Chinese gala for Jordanian companies.

"This is the first time we take part in the expo. We have 19 companies ... to exhibit their products in Shanghai," Saket told Xinhua.

The participating companies will mainly promote Dead Sea products, olive oil, food, fertilizers and chemicals among others, he said.

"China is a very important market and has a large consumption power," Saket added.

The Jordanian chamber is also keen to attract more Chinese investors as Jordan has signed several free trade agreements which can help Chinese companies penetrate other markets, he noted.

Jordan's annual exports to China have amounted to about 100 million U.S. dollars.

The second edition of CIIE will run from Nov. 5 to 10 in Shanghai, a financial hub of China, and is expected to attract representatives from more than 170 countries and regions as well as 500,000 buyers and visitors from around the world.
