The China Innovation Methods Competition will hold its final round in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan province on Nov. 18-24, it was announced at a press conference on Thursday.

Sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the provincial government of Hunan, the competition is part of the China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition aiming to promote the application of innovation methods among enterprises.

This is the second edition of the competition, with the first being held in Changsha last year, a decade after the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education and the China Association for Science and Technology released a document to promote the application of innovation methods.

The 2019 edition is expected to further inspire the innovation enthusiasm of science and technology workers in the business community and promote the application of innovation methods on a larger scale and in a more in-depth way, thereby contributing to China's pursuit of innovation-driven development, Guo Hao, an official of the China Association for Science and Technology, said at the press conference.

The final round will see 200 teams competing for the top three prizes and other prizes by demonstrating the merits of their projects and displaying their mastery of innovation theories.

The teams have been shortlisted for the final round due to their strong performance in the event's 31 regional competitions that attracted some 2,000 teams representing over 1,000 enterprises.

The 10 highest-scoring teams will then advance to a televised knockout final to determine the winners of the gold, silver and bronze awards.

To encourage small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to participate in the event, which was dominated by large enterprises last year, the organizers have introduced a SMEs competition category this year, according to Guo, who stressed efforts to attract SMEs would continue in future years to stimulate their innovation enthusiasm.
