A group of 10 young Malawians on Thursday left for Beijing to participate in an ICT program sponsored by China's telecom giant Huawei.

They formed the 4th batch of Malawian participants of the Huawei program of information and communication technology (ICT), titled Seed for the Future, which was introduced in 2015.

During a seeing-off in the capital Lilongwe, Malawian Minister of Information, Civic Education and Communications Technology, Mark Botomani, hailed the Huawei program as "a life-changing encounter which introduces the students to the world-class ICT infrastructure and hands-on experience and skills," adding that it is in line with Malawian President Peter Mutharika's expectations for the country's youth.

He noted that the Malawian government sees the ICT development as a catalyst for the country's economic development.

The minister also expressed gratitude to Huawei, as well as China for its technical and financial support to the southeastern African country since they established diplomatic ties in late 2007.
