The number of 5G users in Beijing has reached 251,000, and their 5G network services are being provided by 14,577 base stations in the Chinese capital, according to the Beijing Communications Administrations. All areas inside the city's Fifth Ring Road are now seamlessly covered by 5G, officials at the administration said.

According to official data, China's three major telecommunication operators have built 16,634 5G base stations in Beijing as of Dec. 16, and 14,577 are in operation. In addition to all areas inside the Fifth Ring Road, a number of key zones outside the Fifth Ring Road have also received 5G coverage.

To improve the quality of 5G signals, China Unicom and China Telecom announced the co-construction and sharing of 5G networks in September. In Beijing, the two carriers have jointly built and are now sharing over 7,000 5G base stations. Through this initiative, good coverage rate has been increased by 9%, and problems such as disconnection and failure to find 5G network were significantly reduced.

Meanwhile, the number of similar joint projects among the three major operators has exceeded 600. The city is expecting to see 40,000 base stations in operation by 2020, thus making Beijing a national leader in 5G utilization.
