China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) released its corporate social responsibility report in Cairo, Egypt, on Dec. 10. It is the first time that CSCEC released its social responsibility report in a foreign country, and also the first time a Chinese enterprise released its social responsibility report in Egypt.

The "Expanding a Happy Living Environment: CSCEC Egypt Sustainability Report" was released at the open day event held by CSCEC Egypt in the Central Business District (CBD) of Egypt's new administrative capital.

Khaled Abbas, deputy minister of Egypt's Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities (MOHUUC), thanked CSCEC staff from both China and Egypt and congratulated them on their achievements in his speech.

He said that the CBD's Iconic Tower, the highest in Egypt, was constructed at a speed of five to six floors per day, which was unprecedented in the construction history of Egypt. Abbas said he hopes people could pay continued attention to the project.

Han Bing, minister-counselor of the Economic Commercial Counselor's Office of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, said Chinese companies have been participating in Egypt's strategic projects such as the construction of the new administrative capital and injecting positive energy into social progress as Egypt continues to strive for stability and prosperity.

He said that, CSCEC is an active player of the Belt and Road Initiative, and the company is committed to promoting economic progress, job creation, and environmental protection in Egypt as a way to deliver higher living standards, shouldering social responsibilities, and setting an example for other Chinese enterprises in the country.

Han added the report will help strengthen the ties between Chinese companies and Egypt for deeper cooperation and people-to-people connectivity.

Chang Weicai, managing director of CSCEC Egypt, gave a presentation on CSCEC's development, and the significance of the CBD Project. The report illustrates the practices and achievements of CSCEC in Egypt. In 2020, CSCEC Egypt will further integrate its sustainable development strategies into the "Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030" and commit itself to working with stakeholders in Egypt to jointly build the CBD project into the most beautiful city skyline in Egypt, North Africa, the Middle East and even the world, Chang said.

The release event included a briefing on the sustainability report and testimonies from five people who witnessed the report's findings. Abbas, Sallam, and Han then handed out the report in versions of Chinese, Arabic, and English to invited guests. The event concluded with the premiere of a film about CSCEC Egypt.

Ahmed Sallam, undersecretary of Egypt State Information Service, Ahmed Sallam, undersecretary of Egypt State Information Service, and Ahmed Banner from Dar Al-Handasah, also attended the release.

Earlier in the morning, the Economic and Commercial Counselor's Office of China's Embassy in Egypt also held its 2019 Press Conference inside the CMO building of the CBD Project. The press conference included the launch of another promotional film of CSCEC Egypt in multiple languages, as well as the promotion of the social media accounts of Chinese-funded companies in Egypt.

Ahead of the press conference, Han visited over 50 billboards about the China-Egypt friendship, the development of Chinese firms in Egypt, the New Capital CBD Project, and public service events of CSCEC Egypt.
