During a visit to Singapore from Nov. 14 to 15, Zhou Naixiang, chairman of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), met with Chan Chun Sing, Singapore’s minister for trade and industry, Cheong Koon Hean, CEO of the Housing and Development Board (HDB), Liew Mun Leong, chairman of Changi Airport Group, Wee Ee Cheong, deputy chairman of the United Overseas Bank (UOB), Kwek Leng Kee, a board member of Hong Leong Finance, Wong Heang Fine, group CEO of Surbana Jurong Private Ltd., and the managing committee of Jurong Corporation (JTC). During the meetings, Zhou Naixiang talked with the others about joining the Singapore’s market and jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Zhou Yong, vice president of CSCEC, also participated in the meetings.

In the meeting with the Singapore’s minister of trade and industry Chan Chun Sing, Zhou said that, as a witness and active participant of Sino-Singapore friendship and cooperation, CSCEC has been deeply engaged in Singapore’s urban construction and has won trust and support from all levels of government and the business community. He said CSCEC wishes to intensify the efforts to tap into the Singapore’s market and become a vital part of Singapore’s social-economic development, and it hopes to deepen the partnerships with Singaporean companies and jointly promote the BRI.

Chan responded with an enthusiastic welcome and congratulated CSCEC on its accomplishments. He introduced the progress made in Tianjin Eco-city, which is as a model of Sino-Singapore cooperation. He also gave an introduction of Singapore’s work in city upgrading, as well as energy-saving renovation and quality improvement in the city’s existing architecture, inviting participation of CSCEC in this regard. He extended his support to CSCEC and local companies complementing each other and seizing the opportunities brought by BRI.

During Zhou’s meeting with HDB’s CEO, he said CSCEC is honored to be a part of the HDB public housing project. He said CSCEC will continue to be committed to high-quality execution, and ensure safety, quality, and environmental protection. Cheong said CSCEC is a valued long term collaborator and recipient of multiple awards, and that he looks forward to more cooperation in advanced construction technologies and green materials application.

Zhou also had meetings with a number of renowned business leaders from Singapore, hoping for an all-round, wide-ranging, and multi-leveled cooperation.

At Jewel Changi Airport complex, Zhou and Liew Mun Leong, chairman of Changi Airport Group, expressed desires for solid cooperation in key projects including airport development.

CSCEC has been in collaboration with Surbana Jurong for 25 years. During Zhou’s visit, a consensus was reached by the two companies on strengthening all-round cooperation in the planning, design, construction, and operation of infrastructure and industrial park projects, and jointly develop a broader market.

In Zhou’s meeting with Wee Ee Cheong, deputy chairman of UOB, the two expressed expectation and optimism in taking on more diverse forms of financial cooperation in overseas markets to achieve mutual benefit.

Zhou also met with Kwek Leng Kee, a board member of Hong Leong Finance. Kwek spoke highly of the high-quality work delivered by CSCEC and said he hopes to see more intensive cooperation in the field of real estate and hotel investment and construction.

At JTC, Zhou learned about Singapore’s experience and practices in the development of industrial parks, and expressed the hope to collaborate with JTC on construction and operational management of such projects to expand business opportunities.

Zhou also met with Zhong Manying, minister counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore. Zhong praised China Construction (South Pacific) Development Company’s achievements and excellent development. Zhou stated that CSCEC would strengthen market expansion in Singapore and actively explore other markets brought by the BRI.

Officials from the Department of Enterprise Planning and Management, Department of Overseas Business at CSCEC headquarter as well as the representatives of China Overseas Holding Ltd. and China Construction (South Pacific) Development Company also attended the meetings.
