CSCEC completes contracted section of Bruneian sea-crossing bridge

The CC4 section of the sea-crossing Temburong Bridge project in Brunei contracted to the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has been completed, and the Bruneian government will announce the opening date of the bridge shortly, the project leader from CSCEC said on Jan. 1.
The sea-crossing bridge, spanning the Brunei Bay, is the largest infrastructure project in Bruneian history. The total length of the CC4 section constructed by CSCEC is approximately 12 kilometers, including a fully-prefabricated viaduct crossing rainforests and swamps. The construction work started on Oct. 1, 2015.
According to the project leader, the construction team took on considerable challenges posed by the elements, including toxic air in the tropical jungle, heat waves in the sun, and muddiness in the rain. In the early stage, the team had to overcome the lack of fresh water, power wires, and network signals, not to mention difficulties transporting construction materials. For the sake of environmental protection, work on the CC4 section adopted an “elevated” construction method—all pier and beam works were accomplished on a mobile steel platform, so as to not have any equipment make contact with the rainforests and minimize the impact on nature.
Wang Xiaolin, president of the Chinese Enterprise Association in Brunei and general manager of Bank of China Brunei Branch, said that the Temburong Bridge is the largest and most influential transportation infrastructure project in Brunei and will become a new landmark in the country. The CC4 is a section with the highest difficulty, and its successful completion fully demonstrates the technological strength and innovation capability of Chinese companies. He said the project has generated good economic and social results.
At a total length of approximately 30 kilometers, the Temburong Bridge is expected to become a thoroughfare connecting the Brunei-Muara and Temburong districts. It would shorten commute from two hours to 15 minutes, making a meaningful impact for social and economic development in Brunei.
