Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz would not rule out deploying Chinese technology group Huawei's equipment in building his country's future 5G networks, but said that Austria would work with its European Union (EU) partners on a decision.

"We want to be technology-neutral while guaranteeing maximum security," he said when asked about his government's attitude towards Huawei on Monday. "We are acting in close coordination with our European partners and also with the European Commission."

The expansion of the particularly powerful 5G network is making further progress in Austria. After mobile network providers Magenta and 3, A1 Telekom Austria has also started to operate its 5G network.
