With the coronavirus outbreak bringing exceptional challenges to the construction industry, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has stepped in and taken the lead, applying information technologies to provide solutions to workforce and site management, damages to the supply chain, and financial pressures on businesses.

Swift response to the crisis

Yunzhuwang (yzw.cn) is an online service provider for the construction industry built by CSCEC. Its page view hit 265 million in 2019, ranking the third among China’s domestic business-to-business websites right behind 1688.com and hc360.com.

In view of the requirements for COVID-19 prevention at domestic and foreign projects, Yunzhuwang developed and launched two separate systems within three days and 10 days respectively. The Health Information Platform system, designed for foreign-based projects, allows overseas employees and workers to scan a QR code and report their health status on a daily basis.

The other Health Information Direct Report system integrates the most updated public health policies in China with personnel management. The essential feature is real-name registration integrated with the gate access control systems, body temperature readings, entrance-and-exit records, and attendance records.

Up until now, the workforce management systems developed by Yunzhuwang have been connected with the regulation platforms of 65 provincial and municipal governments, providing data for decision-making processes, particularly those concerning the construction industry.

Supply chain repair and reinforcement

Amid the mass shutdown during the pandemic, Yunzhuwang played a highly efficient role in purchasing raw materials and selecting suppliers. For the construction of the Huoshenshan and Leishenshan hospitals, it contributed to the supply of materials valued more than 17 million yuan.

It also sent teams to provinces like Shandong and Guangdong to study local conditions and ensure unhindered supply chains. Ultimately, it signed a significant number of manufacturers of much sought-after commodities. The companies joined in as suppliers, promising adequate resources and stable prices.

Zero-contact management

As a novel solution for site inspection at this time, the Yunzhu Smart Construction Site Management system supports remote regulation and real-time monitoring with technologies of building information modeling, project management, and Internet of Things. Project managers can oversee operations without being physically present, so as to avoid non-essential contacts.

The system currently has 8,029 users from 7,012 projects, and it has supported nearly 200 demonstration projects including the civic service center of Xiong’an New Area and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport.

Financial services for industry supply chain

To address financial vulnerabilities in the industry chain amid the pandemic, Yunzhu Financial brought banks and leading enterprises together, pooling resources to ease the pressure on struggling firms.

It offered financial assistances totaling 2.165 billion yuan to 541 small and micro businesses in the construction industry through online channels. Through an expedited process, most of the companies received loan approvals on the same day of application.

Next, CSCEC will strengthen the innovation chain as an essential fuel for recovery and growth.
