A new guideline on epidemic prevention and control for the service sector took effect in Beijing on Friday, the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau announced at a press conference.

The guideline was revised from a previous version, taking special conditions and current realities of the service sector into account.

Measures in the new guideline put more focus on monitoring the health status of service workers, as well as on disinfecting public facilities such as elevators, underground garages, and toilets.

The guideline orders food service providers to suspend all catering services such as wedding receptions and banquets to avoid crowds, control the number of customers, and make sure that tables are placed more than one meter apart from one another.

Moreover, shopping malls and supermarkets are required to conduct temperature checks, control customer flow, avoid crowds, keep up ventilation, and carry out disinfection. Staff at those workplaces are required to wear masks while working; cashiers and staff responsible for weighing and sorting goods are required to wear gloves while working.

Wang Hongcun, an official of the municipal commerce bureau, said the bureau will assist the law enforcement and market supervision departments to strengthen guidance for agriculture wholesale markets, restaurants, shopping malls, and supermarkets, and push for the implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures.
