Innovative infrastructure construction plays a significant role in facilitating scientific research, technological development, product research and development, and building up national strength in science and technology. China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has been exploring this territory by advancing new infrastructure construction and long-cultivated capacities in scientific and technological innovations.

“BIM+” technologies for information modeling of special-shaped structures

CSCEC’s innovative applications of technologies such as “building information modeling (BIM)+3D,” “BIM+ three dimensional high-precision scanning and analyzing,” and “BIM+ robotics” capture spatial coordinates of the points on given objects with high resolution and efficiency. In addition, they generate rich point cloud data, create 3D virtual models of the construction sites, and collect real-time data and relevant measurements. From construction planning to in-field work, such innovative approaches underpinned better management and control throughout the life-cycle of projects, optimized the design, manufacturing and assembling of components, and ultimately delivered projects of high quality and standards.

New construction techniques for high-end scientific and technological research

In line with industrial standards of design and construction, CSCEC provided creative solutions for special demands in building major scientific and technological infrastructure. It challenges conventional practices, explores ingenious techniques, and actively seeks out and tests new materials, making breakthroughs on all fronts.

New techniques for radiation shielding

By far the most common method for radiation shielding in the construction industry is concrete wall panels to ward off radiation. However, CSCEC took it to next level with a creatively reinforced system and enhanced the shielding function in the process of setting up the wall forms.

Furthermore, during construction by using components ready for assembly, a type of unique joints was devised to block radiation. The joints of vertical components were molded into a shape of “Ω” with gaps not bigger than two centimeters. In this way, radiation must be reflected multiple times before passing through the tiny gaps, which was proved to be extremely unlikely. This new technique not only meets the requirements of scientific and technological research, but also retrains enough flexibility for taking down and recycling in the future.

New techniques for nonmagnetic building

While guaranteeing the safety and stability of building structures, CSCEC has provided the perfect solution to the need for nonmagnetic environment for scientific and technological research. It achieved this through techniques like basalt fiber and non-magnetic stainless steel and, with the assistance of metal detectors, screening all construction materials including backfill, concrete, and binding wires.

Efficient construction system developed with professionalism

CSCEC successfully devised an efficient constructing system with professional pre-construction planning such as pre-installing pipelines and optimizing staggered schedules. It integrated detailed designs with permanent and temporary solutions for municipal pipe networks, fire control passageways, and fences.

Prefabrication with the margin of error reduced to the millimeter-level

Based on BIM technology, CSCEC has pursued a more sophisticated configuration of assembly-on-site practices, and increased the precision of prefabricated component manufacturing. It extended the practices to the construction of equipment rooms. Built upon the DMPO model, components were prefabricated in a standardized, modularized and mass-produced way. The entire process can be tested in computer models, driving down the margin of error to the millimeter-level.

“Green + smart” buildings

CSCEC has always been devoted to the “green + smart” path, constructing high-quality and environmentally friendly buildings with solar panels, rainwater recycling systems, smart lighting, and 24-hour fresh air systems.

In the future, CSCEC will further its advantages in industrial chain, leading new infrastructure construction with its scientific and technological strength, enhancing its management capacities, and upgrading itself with innovation and creativity.
