Chinese stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.2 percent, at 3,320.89 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.65 percent higher at 13,536.17 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices shrank to 1.10 trillion yuan (about 157.88 billion U.S. dollars) from 1.19 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 747 to 718 on the Shanghai bourse while gainers outnumbered losers by 1,110 to 1,050 in Shenzhen.
Shares related to liquor-making and pharmaceutical manufacturing secured solid gains, with shares of Shanxi Xinghuacun Fen Wine Factory Co., Ltd. rising by 4.04 percent to 158.97 yuan per share.
Bucking the upward trend, shares in military, environmental protection projects and brokerages sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.45 percent to close at 2,736.51 points Tuesday.
