'E-sports Beijing 2020' exhibition to be held in mid-August

A series of activities under the "E-sports Beijing 2020" will be held from Aug. 15 to 16, including a conference, an exhibition and trade fair, and the 2020 Arena of Valor World Champion Finals. The announcement was made by Liu Shaojian, director of Beijing State-owned Cultural Assets Management Center, announced at a press conference on Wednesday. 

The "E-sports Beijing 2020" event is jointly held by various municipal departments to promote high-quality development of the Chinese capital's e-sports industry, as well as to create new business types and fresh momentum to grow its cultural industries. Kicked off in May, the event focuses on four aspects: brand promotion, games, industry exchanges, and interactive entertainment. More than 20 sub-activities have been organized, including forums and summits, exhibition transactions, professional games, public games, entertainment performances, interactive games, and annual ceremonies.

On Aug. 15, the Beijing International E-sports Innovation and Development Conference will be held at Shougang Park with online live broadcast. The conference will include keynote speeches, theme introductions, signing ceremonies, round table forums, etc. Global e-sports associations, leading enterprises, e-sports clubs, research institutions, educational institutions, and professional contestants will be invited to explore the global development trend of the e-sports industry. Also at the conference, relevant standards for the e-sports industry, supporting policies, and key projects to be implemented in the near future will be introduced.

The e-sports exhibition and trade fair will center on e-sports game development and operation, e-sports media platform, e-sports club development, e-sports hardware equipment innovation, and e-sports talent training. Many new ideas, technologies, equipment, and products of the e-sports industry will be exhibited.

On Aug. 16, the Cadillac Arena will host the 2020 Arena of Valor World Champion Finals, which is expected to attract up to 100 million online viewers. According to event organizers, holographic imaging and other technologies will be utilized to enhance the audience's sense of participation.

Liu said China occupies a leading position in the global e-sports industry. According to iiMedia Research, China's e-sports market reached 98.22 billion yuan (US$14.03 billion) in 2019, making it the largest e-sports market in the world and an important driving force for technological and business innovation in the field. From January to May, the revenue of Beijing's "culture plus Internet" sector increased by 20.7% over the same period last year, driving the growth of cultural industry revenue by 9.1%; it accounted for 56.3% of the city's cultural industry revenue, marking an increase of 12.3 percentage points year on year.
