CSCEC wins bid for Shenzhen Metro Line 13 phase II (north extension) project

China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) recently won the bid for the second phase (north extension) of Line 13 of the Shenzhen Metro, with a contract value of approximately 12.06 billion yuan.

Supporting urban agglomeration in the Greater Bay Area

The second phase (north extension) of Shenzhen Metro Line 13 is 19.3 kilometers long, and the entire line will be laid underground with 11 stations. The planned construction time is five years. Line 13 is not only a key north-south transit line running through Shenzhen, but also acts as an express line inside the city. Its second phase (north extension) will effectively smooth the traffic flow in Guangming district and provide a more convenient alternative for local commute.

The phase II project will create conditions for passengers on Line 13 to transfer to Dongguan Metro Line 5. When the project is completed, it will be connected with the first phase of Shenzhen Metro Line 13 that was constructed by CSCEC. The whole line will run through the districts of Guangming, Baoshan, and Nanshan, connecting Hong Kong in the south and Dongguan in the north. Besides easing the congestion in the transport corridor in the eastern part of West Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, this project will further stimulate the Shenzhen-Dongguan integrated development. It will play a significant role in promoting the communication and connection in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and achieving urban agglomeration.

Laying solid foundation in Shenzhen's infrastructure construction market

In recent years, CSCEC has continued to penetrate the infrastructure construction market in Shenzhen and expanded its influence to the 

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Taking major projects such as urban rail transit, highways, integrated transit hubs, airports, and logistics centers as opportunities, CSCEC has actively leveraged its expertise in investment, construction, and operation throughout the industry chain to cultivate the CSCEC brand in the infrastructure construction sector.

The winning of this bid provides strong support for CSCEC to secure its position in Shenzhen’s rail transit market, and at the same time gives the company great momentum for development in the Greater Bay Area and the Shenzhen pilot demonstration area.

Setting benchmark for metro construction

The Shenzhen Metro Line 13 phase II (north extension) project is the third bid for a metro project worth over 10 billion yuan that CSCEC won in Shenzhen. It is also the largest urban rail transit project launched in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area since April.

Since CSCEC entered the urban rail transit market in Shenzhen, the company has always adhered to the principles of high standards and strict requirements. CSCEC's No. 1 project, Line 9 of the Shenzhen Metro, was opened two months ahead of schedule, and the second phase of the Line 9 project took the lead in constructing a high-quality tunnel with no breakage, leakage, or dislocation, which was above the industrial standards. When completed, the Changzhen depot on Line 6 will become the first large-scale and integrated metro depot in China that applies the sponge city system, which is planned to officially open and operate this year. On Line 13, which is currently under construction, the first tunnel was completed, and the first station was topped off on schedule under the circumstance that strict pandemic control measures were required. By setting a benchmark for the metro system, CSCEC is providing quality assurance for green travel in Shenzhen.
