China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corporation Ltd. recently announced the completion of the Nanjing Lukou International Airport Terminal l renovation project. With Terminal 1 reopening to air traffic, the airport will start its dual terminal operation to serve passengers.

Located in Nanjing's Jiangning district, the Nanjing Lukou International Airport Terminal 1 project is the first domestic terminal renovation and expansion project with an area of more than 100,000 square meters. After the project completion, the airport has a total construction area of about 160,000 square meters, of which some40,000 square meters are newly built. With Terminal 1 and 2 both in operation, the airport can now handle 50 million passengers per year, making it a first-class modern international airport.

The exterior of the renovated terminal roof retains its previous shape, which was inspired by waves on the Yangtze River. The main building roof truss supports 20,500 square meters of all-steel roof. In order to make the structure more stable, the construction team used1,113 rod and 727 tubing reinforcements at the joints to minimize irreversible damage to the roof.

With the completion of Terminal 1, Lukou Airport has become the first airport in the domestic civil aviation industry where both terminals follow the three-star green building standard. The renovation project has kept themain structure and equipment of the old Terminal 1, set up a solar photovoltaic power generation system, and maintained the project's shape factor and window-wall ratio. With these measures and the favorable climate conditions of Nanjing, the project team has created an eco-friendly and energy-saving airport.

After the construction project of Terminal 1 and 2, the reconstruction and expansion project of Terminal 1 was the third contract signed by China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corporation Ltd. and the Nanjing Lukou International Airport. The two parties are planning to shortly launch the Terminal 1 South Corridorreconstruction and expansion project.
